Program Intent
To enable operators to complete specific job tasks using the wheel loader in a safe and efficient manner; to give an understanding
of the seriousness of operating a wheel loader; and to outline
the responsibilities for operating a wheel loader. This
program specifies the basic knowledge and skill requirements
for the safe operation of wheel loaders and their attachments.
Who Should Attend
All persons who operate a wheel loader as part of their
work.
It is recommended that students have a minimum of 30 hours of experience on a wheel loader prior to taking the Wheel Loader Operator Certification. The cost of the course includes the theory portion and one practical test. Students may take an additional practical test at a cost of $50.00 per test.
Course Content
This program is divided into five theory sections and
a practical component. At the end of the theory there
will be a 50 questions exam of which, at least 70% must
be achieved. In addition to the theory portion, each
student will be required to achieve 75% in a practical
exercise. The practical exercise consists of maneuvering
a wheel loader through a predetermined obstacle course while
performing several functions. If a student does not achieve a passing grade on the practical, a re-test may be booked on a later date at a cost of $50.00 (plus GST). However, it is recommended that the student gain more experience under the direct supervision of a competent operator before booking the re-test.
Course length varies on
number of students and their experience but is typically
8 hours in length. A general description of the course
outline is as follows:
